An Interview With Marivic Uchi
How many years have you been selling travel?
I had the privilege of owning and managing a travel agency in the Philippines for seven enriching years, during which I helped countless clients plan their dream vacations. There’s nothing more rewarding than turning someone's travel aspirations into reality. When I relocated to Canada, I was filled with both excitement for new opportunities and a bit of uncertainty about what the future held—much like opening a new book and not knowing whether it would be a thrilling adventure or a heartfelt romance. However, I am deeply grateful for the chance to continue pursuing my passion as a travel agent at Maritime Travel. A sincere thank you to Maritime Travel for recognizing my experience, placing trust in my abilities, and valuing my passion for the travel industry.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include watching movies with my family whenever we have some free time – it's our ultimate bonding session, complete with popcorn and debates over who gets the remote. I also love cooking and experimenting with new recipes, making sure no one goes hungry (even if they’re secretly hoping I don’t burn anything). On weekends, you’ll find us going on joyrides, pretending to be road trip pros, and exploring new travel spots whenever I get the chance – because, let’s face it, the world is full of places that need to be explored!
What type of resort activities do you favor? ie water sports, lounging by the pool, etc?
I love hiking or going on nature walks whenever I can – it’s like my way of pretending I’m on an adventure movie. I also make sure to visit the spa weekly for my ‘me time’ – because who doesn’t need a little pampering, right? And of course, I’m all about Zumba classes – nothing like dancing off those calories and pretending I’m a pro dancer while having a blast!
What are your favorite destinations?
I have had the opportunity to visit several countries across Southeast Asia, but I have developed a particular preference for Thailand. The country offers an exceptional combination of affordable shopping and delectable cuisine. Thailand's shopping scene is particularly appealing, with a wide range of options that cater to various tastes and budgets, making it an excellent destination for those seeking great value. Additionally, the country's food is unparalleled, with a rich variety of flavors and unique dishes that consistently stand out as a highlight of my travels.
What languages do you speak?
My native language is Tagalog, spoken in the Philippines, and I’m also proficient in English. Growing up bilingual, I can easily switch between both languages, which helps me communicate effectively in various settings, whether at work, socially, or while traveling.
