Our Italy Expert 

This intimate, worry-free, Italian adventure is designed and hosted by our own Charline Fortier, a Maritime Travel counsellor for more than 40 years. Charline is an expert on all things Italian, and has been to Italy more than 50 times – on her own, with her wine-expert husband, and hosting groups. “I feel more at home in my beloved Italy, than I do in Canada,” she will tell you. Charline loves to share her secrets… whether it’s a favourite restaurant where she’s friends with the owners, the best little gelato shop, or the best shoe store in town. Charline speaks Italian, English and French.

Overseas travel to Venice, Italy.

Arrive at Venice Airport. You will be met by a Maritime Travel representative at the international arrivals area. From there, you will be provided a transfer to our hotel in Venice. The balance of the afternoon is yours to rest and rejuvenate. Later this evening we will meet up with Charline at one of her favorite restaurants and enjoy a welcome dinner with wine as we get to know our travelling companions. To bed early this evening to rest up for our adventure ahead. D

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 – Following breakfast at our hotel, we will pick up our transfer to Tronchetto, where we will board our private water launch, which will take us to Piazza San Marco for our walking tour of Venice. This will include the Piazza San Marco, the Basilica San Marco and the Doges Palace. This afternoon, join us for a visit to the island of Burano, known for its fishermen and lace-makers. There will be time for lunch on your own, and to explore this lovely island before we head back to San Marco and some more free in time in Venice. We will make our own way back to our hotel. Supper and the balance of the evening will be on your own. Be sure to get some great suggestions from Charline, or perhaps join her! B

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 – Today we travel from Venice to Pienza. We will stop in San Gimignano, a small walled village famous for its fascinating medieval architecture and towers that rise above of all the other buildings offering an impressive view of the city from the surrounding valley. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990, San Gimignano offers visitors the chance to step back in time while enjoying its local products, including saffron and white wine, the Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Prior to arriving in Pienza, we will stop In the Montalcino area for a fabulous dinner under the stars with cellar tour and wine pairing. With our meal we will savour the delicious wines from this exclusive area. BLD

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 – We have a free day to explore the charming medieval town of Pienza with its lovely shops, beautiful views, and the historic Palazzo Piccolomini, the birthplace of Pope Pius II. Pienza is also world -renowned for its Pecorino cheese. B

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 – Following breakfast, we will travel to Florence. We will meet our local guide for a short walking tour, including the Piazza Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza della Siggnoria. Later, meet up with Charline for dinner at Roberto’s, one of her favourite trattorias. BD

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 – Make sure you eat a good breakfast, as this will be our shopping day in Florence. Charline will point you in the right direction and highlight some of the best places for the best prices. Leather, silk, jewelry, shoe stores, handbags, clothing - you will be overwhelmed. You can also visit Michelangelo’s David or the famous Uffizi museum. B

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 – Our centrally located hotel makes it easy to enjoy another free day exploring the wonderful city of Florence. Late afternoon we will meet up and enjoy a private pizza and gelato cooking class. We will be rewarded for our time in the “laboratory” with a yummy dinner and wine. BD

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 – Today we travel from Florence to Gubbio with our arrival just in time for a light lunch. The balance of your day is free. Gubbio one of the most beautiful Medieval towns in Umbria known for its ceramics and for having been a frequent haunt of St Francis of Assisi. BL

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 – Onwards to Rome! After checking into our hotel we will meet our local guide for a walking tour of Rome, including Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. We will enjoy a light lunch before continuing with our guide to unearth more of what Rome has to offer. Tonight , we gather together for a fabulous Roman meal at one of Charline’s favourite restaurants. BLD

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1 – There are so many things you can do to fill your free day in Rome. Why not toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain or tour the Colosseum. The choices are endless! B

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2 – This morning we say goodbye to Rome, and make our way to the Amalfi Coast. En route we will visit the fascinating preserved remains of Herculaneum – sister city to Pompeii. Though not as well known, the remnants of this civilization are said to be better preserved than those of Pompeii. We will enjoy a private, guided tour. We will then arrive in the town of Amalfi and check in to our hotel. The balance of the day is free for you to enjoy and explore on your own. B

MONDAY, OCTOBER 3 & TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4 – These are fabulous free days for you to explore and experience the stunning Amalfi coast. After breakfast each day, get some insider tips from Charline… Go to Ravello, or Positano or Capri (an easy boat ride away), or just sit back on your own and enjoy the lovely beach across the street from the hotel. Charline has lots of suggestions and tips to point you in the right direction as the possibilities are endless. Tuesday evening, we will meet up for a farewell dinner and toast our new friends and many amazing experiences. BD

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5 – After breakfast, we will say farewell to the Amalfi Coast and Italy and make our way to Naples Airport to catch our flight back home. B
