Sailed on the 6-month old MSC Seascape in a rear-facing balcony (our first time doing that!) The stateroom was just gorgeous with amazing views of the wake from the room or the balcony. Unfortunately, we were on the deck 9, which is the lowest deck available for this type of room. We overlooked the aft infinity pool, which we were worried might bring some extra noise when in fact that noise was quite minimal. The night club one deck below that pool, however, was a different story all together. Ships being primarily metal means they are also great sound conductors. We were kept awake until 2 or 3 am nearly every night by the thumping bass from the club. The hotel staff did their best to accommodate, and had looked at moving us to a Yacht Club suite, but they ship was unfortunately sold out so that was not possible. Rather than taking a smaller stateroom with a bigger balcony (above one of the smoking areas on the ship), we decided to just deal with it. I would not recommend these staterooms if you are a light sleeper or have kids. Definitely go up a few levels and it should be smooth sailing.
Being an Italian ship, the breads, cheeses, and gelato were to die for. And we definitely got our fill. We found the food in the main dining room to be on par with the buffet, which was a little bit of a letdown. That being said, the buffet was comprehensive with a lot of variety of ethnic options throughout the week. German one night, Mexican another, Chinese another, and Greek yet another. The specialty dining steak house was exemplary (get the seafood tower, but don't look at the price tag), and the all-you-can-eat tacos, nachos, and burritos at the specialty Mexican restaurant were so good we had to stop ourselves from paying to do it on a second night.
But for Cozumel, the ports of call were all a first for us, and they did not disappoint. This was the perfect "lazy beach day" cruise option. We specifically opted not to do any excursions on this trip, except ones that were beach trips. In Cozumel, for example, we took a 45-minute bus trip to Playa Mia, and rented a pool-side cabana and then split our time between the pool, the beach, and the buffet.
