4,0 rating based on 1 rating We just got back from the 10 day Newfoundland Fly & Drive offered in the Go Canada brochure. 2800 km's in 10 days--whew!!!
The people are warm and friendly and always up for a chat, and the scenery is spectacular. Watch out for the potholes--some of them are more like caverns whether you are on T.C. Hwy 1 or the secondary roads. When they say slow to 50 km from 100km/hour--no one is kidding.
We travelled from Deer Lake around the west and east coasts and ended in St. John's. Lots of great local musicians, so go to the pubs in Rocky Harbour to listen to Anchors Aweigh or O'Reilley's Pub in St. John's on George Street for local musicians daily. Accommodation is generally fine, but if your clients can't carry large bags up stairs in some of the places, advise them to pack a carryall in their luggage so they can leave the big pieces in the car. The accommodation is generally in heritage properties. If you go to Trinity, definitely have dinner on the dock at Artisan Inn. The chef is absolutely top notch!
Our room was directly across from the local lighthouse and the fog horns did not bother us at all and the management supplied ear plugs for those that needed them.
Food is expensive as gardens are difficult to grow due to the soil conditions; but the seafood chowder and fish were amazing every place we stopped. We did not have a bad meal in any place we stopped at.
Definitely a place to visit and bring home lots of memories.
