An Interview With Jane Hunt

How many years have you been selling travel?
I have been selling Travel for about 15 Years now and hooked on Travelling since I was 18yrs old. At that time I had won a trip to "Club Med" and have been trying to see the World ever since.

What are your hobbies?
My # 1 Hobby is Travelling of course!!! It is a Big World and I want to see it ALL! I also Love to Shop!! So love to combine the two! I also Love to Sew and do Fashion Design and that is where I spent the 17 years before I switched to Travel in 2000. I still like to design Fancy Dresses for Special Occasions and costumes for myself and my daughter. I also enjoy swimming (mostly in the Caribbean) and skating and love to just play with our Pets - Snowball our Bichon Frise and SaraBella our Cat and or Hedgehog "Starburst"!

What type of resort activities do you favor? ie water sports, lounging by the pool, etc?
I Love a resort that offers a variety of Activities for all ages. I love to have lots of "Daytime" activities at the Pool (Pool Bar) or on the Beach as well as a good variety of Excursions that are usually available from the Tour Operator Desk or Concierge at the Resort. Now when the "Sun Goes Down" I like a Resort that is lively with lots of Entertainment from shows to Beach Parties, Bon Fires, Casinos and Discos. There are many Resorts that are currently offered in Jamaica, Punta Cana, Cuba and the Mayan Riviera that offer all of these things.

What are your favorite destinations?
I have SOOOO Many Favorite Destinations ...where do I start? I love the Caribbean - Turks and Caicos (Beaches) , St. Lucia( Sandals), St. Maarten, Tortola, Grand Cayman and Jamaica. I also love Europe -Italy, Greece ( especially Santorini and Mykonos), England, Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria including Globus and Trafalgar tours and Avalon Waterways River Cruises , BUT my Very Favorite Destination is Hawaii!! The people and the land come together to make it my very Favorite Place that I have visited ...so Far!

What languages do you speak?
I only speak English but like to dabble in learning a bit of Spanish as many of the places I travel to have Spanish as thier First Language.

Travel History

Aventura Cove Palace - 2012

For March Break, my Family returned to the Mayan Riviera where we have  vacationed several times before. This time we stayed at the Aventura Cove Palace Resort ( soon to be a Hard Rock Resort). The Property was smaller than most Mayan Riviera Resorts but had Amazing Service ( even at the Pool and the Beach) and Awesome Entertainment!  There was no beach but the Cove was great for snorkeling and perfect for Families with small children.

While in the Mayan, we visited XCaret Park and did some underground cave snorkeling and took in the Evening Mayan SHOW. We also snorkeled at  AKUMEL Bay with the Turtles and this was one of the BEST snorkeling experiences ever. I was also able to visit the Riu Palace Mayan Riviera and the Grand Palladium Complex ... both AMAZING Properties which I would highly recommend to any one.  Can't wait to go back again!!

St.Lucia - 2012

Sandals Grande St. Lucian was an Amazing Experience!   In June, I was able to travel to St. Lucia and Experience my very 1st Sandals Vacation ... and I was NOT Disappointed! We travelled to the resort by Helecopter ... something I highly recommend as there is quite a drive! What a View!I have been sending clients to Sandals for 11 years but I was really blown away by this Resort. The service certainly supassed any resort that I had ever visited and the staff were "Over the Top" incredible with their Service! The Beach is amazing and the food incredible, especially the Crepes @ Josephines and the Steak @ Gordon's!  When staying at the Sandals Grand you also have the priviledge to Play at the other 2 Sandals Resorts ...  Sandals La Toc and  Sandals Halcyon including 20 restaurants and 23 Bars!!  There is a Free Shuttle that does the Transfers many times a day until 11pm.  I loved Gordon's Restaurant that you will find perched out over the water at the Grand ... here we celebrated my husbands Birthday!

The  French Restaurant La Toc was another Favorite that we had to visit twice!  The Monday Beach Party at the Grand and the Friday Street Party at the La Toc were 2 events that should not be missed!

The Island of St. Lucia is also AMAZING!! It is a British  ( with some French) Island so communication is very easy. The locals are very friendly. The landscape of this island is breathtaking ... the Volcano that you can dive into, the Mud Baths that you can soak in and the Piton Mountains that you can climb.  My Favorite Island in the Caribbean!!

Sapphire Princess Cruise - Pre Cruise Tour - 2012

In August  I  travelled to Alaska with my Family ... Our 1st Visit! We encountered so many  Amazing things that I'm sure you would never see Anywhere else in the World! We took a 4 day Pre- Cruise Tour and a 7 Day Southbound "Journey to the Glaciers" Princess Cruise.  During our 4 Day Pre- Cruise Tour we visited Anchorage, Talkeetna/ Mt. McKinley

and Denali National Park. In Talkeetna we took a Jet Boat with "Mahay's Jetboat Adventures". On this 4 Hr tour, we were able to view many eagles, and also watch Salmon reseachers tagging the huge salmon as they swam upstream. The Highlight of this tour was the Devils Canyon -  experiencing the Power of a Class 6 WhitewaterRapids.   In Denali, we took an extended tour to the "Tundra" which I highly recommend. We encountered  many Moose, Fox, Caribou, Dal Sheep and Grizzly Bears. Unfortunately like many other Alaska Tourists, the Rain and Fog Prevented us from having a View of the Famous "Mt. McKinley".

From Denali we took a Dome Train to Whittier where we would board our cruise. The 8 Hr trip was filled with many more wildllife sightings and beautiful scenery … even Sarah Palin's Home.

Once onboard the Sapphire Princess, our first stop was at Hubbard Glacier. It was a huge mountain of ice and was incredible but  Glacier Bay National Park was the Highlight of this Cruise.

It is impossible to explain how incredible it is to hear the thunderous roar and cracking of this bright Blue Glacier and then see the ice falling into the ocean below and creating huge waves.

Our Captain and the Rangers that boarded our ship told us  this had been one of the most exceptional days of calving that they had experienced in very long time . We were parked for over 2hrs!

Our next stop was Skagway - The Gateway to the Klondike Goldrush. Here, we boarded the White Pass Railroad, the century old train that tunnels through the mountain up 2, 865ft to the summit.

On the way we were able to view beautiful waterfalls, glaciers and wildlife. From here we too a Chilkoot Tour to the Yukon … Back in Canada!  More Bears and Moose and a visit to the dog musher camp to play with the Husky Puppies.

In Juneau, we chose a Whale Watching Tour with Harv and Marv's Outback Alaska ( # 1 on Trip Advisor) and we were thrilled! This was another exceptional day as not only did we experience a Mother Orca teaching her 2 babies to hunt a seal, we also seen 18 Humpback Whales who lined up and performed as if they were choreographed by Seaworld … Unbelievable!! Our Captain Steve was the Best and he used a" Hydrophone" for us to hear the whales singing and communicating with each other. We were then taken on a short bus ride to view the Menden hill Glacier and the bear feeding park … best tour ever!

In Ketchikan- the Salmon Capital of the World, we took time to walk through the beautiful little town and experienced the shops and restaurants ( and even an olden day Brothel- Dolly's House) on Creek Street, a wooden boardwalk. We then took a small tour bus to Herring cove where we were able to view several Black bears feding on the Salmon on the river banks. We then visited the Saxman Totem Pole  Park and our guide told us the amazing stories behind each of them.

As we sailed our final day through the Inside Passage we were entertained by many playful whales , seals and incredible scenery  … we even finally  seen the SUN!!

Overall an incredible vacation!

Costa Rica - 2012

October 31st - November 7th - 2012 Just Returned from Costa Rica on an AMAZING Educational Trip with" Expediciones Tropicales" with 12 other agents and led by Miza ... our Eglish Speaking Guide ( PAPA) and our own Maritime Travel Costa Rican Expert Maxine Monk. It was 8 Days Packed full of Adventure and Nature.  We stayed each night in a diffierent Hotel and all of them were Great in their Own Special Way.  We stayed in resorts that were bedded deep in the Jungle and were only accessible by boat to one that sat the bottom of a the Arenal  Volcano to  one that was visited Frequently by Movie stars ... with a BAT Cave Bar and also an  All Inclusive in Puntarenas! The Adventures that we encountered were more than I could have ever Dreamed of ... - Watching Baby Turtles leave their nests and make the "Journey of their Lives" to the ocean - Sailing through Tortuguero National Park filled with Parrots, Macaws and Tucans  -    Monkeys, Crocks and Turtles - Travelling by "Nature Air" on a small plane where there was no Airport and NO ID required - Spending the day at the "Tabacon Grand Thermal Spa" ...it is considered “the eighth-wonder of the world" featuring the heat of the volcano, the flowing waters of the hot springs, the pure air of the rainforest and the fertile earth. An Incredible Day!! -Zip Lining over the jungle with 8 Platforms and travelling at speeds of 80 km/hr, up 200m above sea level and for almost a km at a time!! Breathtaking!! - Sailing on a Catamaran with 2 water slides and after an afternoon of snorkeling ...relax in the Jucuzzi tubs  with some amazing Coctail Drinks - Manuel Antonio National Park - amazing beaches all the nature you can handle ... even Sloth Monkeys!! BUT ... the Highlight of this trip ... there were soooo MANY .... was the Crocodile ManTour!!! Watching Jason wade through the water with dozens of these HUGE Crocks and Feeding them with his bare hands was CRAZY!! If you are one who Loves  Adventure and getting "Up Close and Personal" with Nature ... I have a trip of a Lifetime for You!!

I stopped at Olympia, Corfu, Rhodes, Athens, Mykonos and Santorini ( My Favorite!)  In Italy we experienced Venice ( a Gondola Ride on the canals and a "Sting" Concert in St. Marks Square!)  Naples  ( Sorrento – Pompeii and Amalfi Coast), and Rome ( Vatican City, Sistine Chapel, Coliseum ) We also had stops in Dubrovnik, Croatia and Ephesus, Turkey.  Overall it was a dream come true!

Jamaican Celebration! - 2011

For New Years 2011 I returned to Jamaica! I stayed at Sunset Beach Resort in Ocho Rios and had the opportunity to also spend some time at the Beaches Boscobel, Riu Ocho Rios, and the Bahia Principe Jamaica. Each property had it’s own unique qualities.

Summer Road Trip - Phoenix to LAX - 2010

Summer Road trip 2010

This summer our family chose a Western USA Road Trip for our Vacation.

We arrived in Pheonix, Arizona to the balmy temperature of 118F but NO Humidity. We ventured through the Cactus Studded highway to the Red Rock Canyon of Sedona. What an amazing view! We stayed at the Enchantment Resort buried deep into the canyon. It is one of the most serene places on Earth. The Casita Villas were embedded right into the Canyon walls with a terrace view of the Sunset.

Now heading north we made a pit stop at Slide Rock – a Natural Rock Waterslide and Bedrock – home of the Flintstones, finally ending at a place I have “Dreamed” of visiting my whole life – one of the Seven Wonders the World – the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It certainly did not disappoint me. I was amazed at how huge it was and how Beautiful. We spent 2 days by car and “Free” shuttle exploring all 5 of the trails –stopping an nearly all of the “Lookout Points” as every one displayed a new excitement. The Sunset over the Canyon was beyond anything I had seen. We then drove several hours to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon …do not take the Buck n’Doe Road …where the Hualapai Indian Tribe have constructed the “Skywalk” – a Glass Bottom Horseshoe Walkway extending over the canyon wall … looking straight down 7,000 ft.

It was now time to leave the Peace and Tranquility of Arizona and hit Las Vegas , Nevada!!! The flashing lights and ringing bells of slot machines brought on a whole new excitement. We stayed at Planet Hollywood in the heart of the “Strip”. I had the opportunity to visit 14 of the Resorts and most of what they had to offer. There is never a lack of entertainment. I was able to experience the Gondolas of the Venetian, the Eiffel Tower of Paris, the Secret Gardens and erupting Volcano of The Mirage, the Lion Exhibit of MGM, the Roller Coaster of New York New York, the Bellegio Fountains and the Pirate Adventure of Treasure island to name a few. We also went to the Stratosphere and did several Thrill rides Dangling over the edge of the 1,149 ft tower and then did the Fremont Street Experience. The shows are also plentiful … we saw the Blue Man Group , Mystere – Cirque du Soleil and the Variety Show. It was all pretty exciting but the Best Experience of all was the Maverick Helecopter Ride over the Hoover Dam, Lake Meade and into the Western Rim of the Grand Canyon …landing near the bottom on the Colorado River. AWESOME!!! A do not miss for sure!

Now leaving the excitement and the HEAT … we arrived in San Diego, California… 62 F …coldest summer in 77years. A beautiful somewhat laid back city right on the ocean. We stayed at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina and what an incredible view from the 23rd floor! We visited the San Diego Zoo, which houses the only Koalas outside of Australia. Seaworld is another fun day and is almost identical to Orlando.

From here we spent the day Beach Hopping up the Pacific Coast and made stops at Laguna , Newport, Huntington, and Long Beaches with a stop at the Santa Monica Pier and ending in Zuma Beach in Malibu. We visited Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Six Flags Magic Mountain. There are lots of exciting things to experience in Los Angeles and we tried to pack them all in.

Overall it was an amazing experience and we all learned more than you can ever read in a book …it is all about the “Power of Being There”.

Mayan Riviera~ - 2010

In October I returned to the Mayan Riviera and stayed the the Iberostar Paraiso Maya !! AMAZING Property!! It was a huge resort with every amenity that you could imagine and a beautiful beach to go with it. While there I had the opportunity to visit Dreams Riviera Cancun as well as Tulum, X Caret, Xel – Ha and Discover Dolphins.

Royal Caribbean New Years Celebration! - 2009

To Celebtate the Beginning of another Year, 2009,  we took our 9th  Royal Caribbean Cruise. This time on the "Freedom of the Seas"!  They had a 10,000 Ballon drop at Midnight in the Grand Promenade! What an AWESOME ship! It has an amazing Pool deck with a "Flowrider" , a Water Park for the kids and overhanging Hot Tubs for Adults only. The Sports deck houses a Huge Rock Climbing Wall and a Mini Golf Course and simulator. There are more restaurants and Bars than you will be able to visit and the Service at all of them is #1!!! The Spa is an excellent way to relax and you can work off some of that amazing food at a huge Fitness Facility. My Favourite Part of the Freedom is the Grand Promenade! It gives you the wide open space that is not found on any other Cruise Line. Here you can Shop, Dine or meet new friends and have a drink at your favorite bar. The entertainment is also Amazing, from the Calypso Band and  Belly Flop Contest on the Pool Deck to the Broadway Style Shows and Skating Extravanza in the evening ....there is always something to do .

Gaylord Palms, Radisson Resort at Port Canaveral and Caribe Royale, Florida - 2009

In April, We travelled to Florida for our 30th Visit to Disney World   www.disneyworld.disney.go.com .... Easter is definately a Specail Day with Mickey and Friends! We stayed at the Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, for the first 3 days. What an amazing resort! It has an Indoor World with lakes and rivers running through it. A Boat/Restaurant on the lake and Gators swimming in the Rivers with amazing lush vegetation everywhere.  It has a Beautiful Wedding Gazebo and many stores and restaurants throughout. It provides a kids pool and activities area with a waterslide and a more secluded pool area for adults only. It is also a huge Business Convention Center and attracts many families.  Most rooms have balconies and face into this beautiful area. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with a stay at this resort. Visit the website at: http://www.gaylordhotels.com/ My daughter was going to Camp at NASA for a week, so we moved out to Port Canaveral and stayed for a week at the Raddison Resort at the Port.  Again, another fantastic resort . Very Caribbean like with a Beautiful pool with a Waterfall. The Suites are recommended and have a seperate bedroom with the Sleep # Beds, a huge whirlpool tub and seperate walk in shower. The living area has a double pull out sofabed and a full kitchen. It is a great resort for a Pre- or Post Night Cruise or just a Family Vacation near the Beach.
